"The true origin of Jasminum officianle is not known, but it is probably native to Iran. Even in China, where it was known in the third century, it was considered to be an imported plant and its Chinese name, Yeh-hsi-ming, is doubtless a corruption of the original Persian name Yasaman (in Arabic, Ysmin), which meant 'white flower'.."
